To me, the White Mountains makes me think of John Christopher's Tripods trilogy and J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, both of which feature a mountain range called the White Mountains.
I was up at somewhere above 8000 feet, suffering just a bit of altitude sickness from the fairly rapid ascent and making sure that I didn't try to over-exert myself. We were on the way to the Bristlecone pines and there was a nice spot to safely stop.
To the left is the Deep Springs valley, behind which is Death Valley. The Inyo mountains separate it from the owens valley. The snowcap is the Sierra Nevada range, behind which is the Pacific.
I took this as a series of ten exposures on my camera and stitched it in Hugin.
